Cavalli College Modes of Learning Image

Modes of learning

Personalised academic and pastoral support every step of the way. Learner success is our priority!

Cavalli College currently offers two modes of learning, depending on the programme of study. Most of our programmes are delivered through a Workplace Learning (Blended) mode. The exception is the New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 2), which is delivered fully online (Distance) in accordance with the qualification’s requirements.

Workplace Learning (Blended)

Workplace Learning (Blended) is conducted through an approved work placement and the Cavalli College learning management system. Learners complete the applied practice hours required by the New Zealand qualification in which they are enrolled. The workplace will provide support to assess learners on their practice.

Online Learning (Distance)

Online Learning (Distance) is conducted online through the learning management system. Courses have practical components that require learners to merge practice and theory in their study. Employers may be involved in the assessment of learners, but their involvement is not a requirement of the mode of study. Learners gain practical skills and are evaluated by their Cavalli College lecturers.

Fees

Programme fees vary. Information about specific programme fees, can be found in the individual programme page.

Fees Free

Starting tertiary study or training for the first-time? New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who are new to tertiary study in 2025, may be eligible for Free Fees, covering up to $12,000 of their study costs. The New Zealand government will cover the tuition cost for the final year of a qualification, which may include one-year qualifications, provided the qualification meetings the Governments qualification criteria.

To get Fees Free on completion of their final year of study or training, learners must:

  • complete a qualification or a programme eligible for Fees Free, and
  • meet the residency criteria at the completion time of the qualification or programme, and
  • meet the prior study and training criteria, and
  • not have already used Fees Free.

Learners don’t need to do anything to confirm their eligibility until 2026. However, if they would like to check if they meet the residency and prior study and training criteria before they complete their qualification or programme, they can read the eligibility criteria on the Fees Free website,
www.feesfree.govt.nz/final-year

Claiming Fees Free

After completion for their first eligible qualification or programme, learners are able to confirm their eligibility and claim their entitlement through myIR from early 2026.

For those with a student loan, the Fees Free entitlement will go towards paying off the student loan. This will lower the amount they have borrowed. For those without a student loan, the entitlement will be paid to their nominated bank account.

To check eligibility, visit www.feesfree.govt.nz

Cavalli College Learner Policies Image

Learner policies

At Cavalli College, we’re committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all learners. Our learner policies outline rights and responsibilities of all learners, and help ensure that everyone in our community is treated with fairness, respect, and integrity.

This section contains important information about academic expectations, learner conduct, complaints and appeals, health and safety, and more. We encourage all learners to familiarise themselves with these policies to help them succeed and feel confident throughout their learning journey.

Complaints

Cavalli College has a fair, culturally responsive, and transparent process for addressing complaints. Learners are made aware of this process at enrolment, and it is designed to ensure any concerns raised with Cavalli College are acknowledged, investigated, and responded to.

If a learner is not satisfied by the outcome of our complaints process, they may be able to raise their concerns externally. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority’s website provides useful information about the avenues available.

Learners may also be able to take their complaint to Study Complaints – a dispute resolution provider specialising in supporting domestic tertiary and international students in resolving disputes with their provider. This is a free service for students. Non-students who wish to raise a complaint with Cavalli College, can email the details to support@cavallicollege.nz.

Cavalli College takes all reasonable steps practicable to prevent harassment and discrimination and to act promptly and fairly on any complaints received. The Board of Directors should be informed of any questions regarding harassment, the filing of a harassment complaint, or reporting a case of domestic violence. Reach out to the General Manager at generalmanager@cavallicollege.nz, who will provide guidance and ensure the complaint or case is addressed promptly, consistently and fairly.
