Preparing for your trip to New Zealand
Before travelling to New Zealand, it is important to ensure you meet Immigration NZ’s requirements for your stay.
Immigration
It’s important to make sure you have the correct visa that allows you to live and study in New Zealand before you travel.
Enrolment at Cavalli College is conditional upon obtaining the appropriate visa. In most cases this is a student visa. Holders of other types of visas must ensure their visas allow them to study the qualification outlined in their Offer of Place. The Offer of Place does not guarantee that you will obtain the appropriate visa to allow you to study.
As an international learner, you are responsible for meeting all conditions relating to your visa. If you change your visa during your study, you must inform Cavalli College and ensure that the visa is still valid for study.
Cavalli College accepts no responsibility for the visas of partners/spouses or dependent children.
You are responsible for ensuring Cavalli College receives a certified copy or sights the original, and makes a copy of your visa and any condition contained within that visa prior to your start date. E-visas can be provided if forwarded directly from Immigration New Zealand.
For more information on applying for a visa, visit the Immigration New Zealand website.
Health and travel insurance
Under the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, you are required to have appropriate health and travel insurance for the duration of your study. Cavalli College can support you in arranging code-compliant medical and travel insurance.
Payment for health and travel insurance is a condition of enrolment and will be automatically invoiced. Cavalli College recommends Southern Cross (International Student Travel Insurance NZ | SCTI NZ) as a reliable provider. We can assist you in arranging insurance with them to ensure it meets the necessary standards.
If you prefer to arrange your own insurance, you must provide a copy of your policy in English. The insurance policy must be from a reputable and established travel insurance company, and it must include emergency coverage available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will also need to provide details of what the insurance covers, along with the dates of the coverage. Cavalli College will assess the policy to ensure it complies with the insurance standards set out by the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.
Accident insurance
In New Zealand, everyone is covered by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), which provides support if you are injured in an accident. This includes citizens, residents, and temporary visitors.
ACC does not cover general medical expenses, so it is important to have appropriate
health or travel insurance as well. For more details, visit the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz
