This programme is designed for learners who are ready to work with greater independence, responsibility, and professional judgement within health and wellbeing settings.
Learners select ONE applied practice focus aligned with their work or career goals, either Aged and Complex Care OR Mental Health and Addiction.
- Aged and Complex Care:
Develop advanced capability to support older people and those with complex health needs. This includes recognising changes in health and wellbeing, responding to deterioration, supporting long-term conditions, and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary care teams - Mental Health and Addiction:
Build advanced skills to support people experiencing mental health and addiction challenges. Learners develop confidence in trauma-aware, recovery-focused, and culturally responsive approaches, working safely within community and residential settings.

Entry criteria
Academic entry
Applicants must have successfully completed the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) in one of the recognised strands (including Advanced Care and Support, Peer Support, Primary Care Practice Assistance, Rehabilitation Support, or Social and Community Services) OR an equivalent overseas qualification OR significant relevant experience.
English language entry
All international applicants and domestic applicants for whom English is an additional language and te reo Māori is not the first language must provide evidence of meeting English language requirements according to Rule 22 of the NZQA Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2025 for a level 5 programme.
Other
Applicants may need to provide at least one written reference, succeed in a personal visual interview, and have attained a New Zealand Police Vetting Report.
